Son of Tom Hanks , one of the most bankable actors of all time, Colin Hanks was immersed very early in the world of the seventh art. He was educated at Sacramento Country Day School and then at Chapman University, and received his high school diploma from Loyola Marymount University.

The young man was revealed in 1999 with the science fiction series Roswell where he played Alex Whitman during its first two seasons. He then took part in two episodes of the HBO war series created by his father and Steven Spielberg , Brothers in Arms , before obtaining several film roles. We can thus see him in films not necessarily known outside the borders of his country such as Orange County (2002), Standing Still (2005), Careless (2007) or even My Favorite Spy (2008).

In 2008, Colin Hanks played a priest in 3 episodes of the hit series Mad Men before seeing his notoriety increase thanks to his villain character in season 5 of Dexter , that of the formidable schizophrenic serial killer Travis Marshall. The actor was then chosen to play a procedural police officer opposing the impulsive Bradley Whitford in the series mixing the comedy and police genres, The Good Guys .

Accustomed to the roles of somewhat uptight and calm characters, Colin Hanks slipped into the shoes of a police officer with a tidy life in 2014 in the first season of Fargo , an adaptation in ten episodes of the cult snowy thriller from the Coen brothers . funny and macabre atmosphere.
