Woman faces charges after abandoning dog in stroller at Pittsburgh airport, police say

Authorities in Pennsylvania say they plan to charge a woman who reportedly abandoned a dog in a baby stroller at the airport last week so she could catch a flight.

The airport pup is an older brown and white Frenchie.

He was photographed with one of the many Allegheny County police officers who loved on him after police say his owner abandoned him.

"We got a report of a brown and white Frenchie in a green stroller who was sitting with food and water,” said Sgt. Jason Donaldson of the Allegheny County Police Department.

It was a sight that caught everyone's attention, with people hopping off the moving walkway and running right into the pup sitting inside a baby stroller and no owner in sight.

“We were able to determine that the dog's owner had attempted to fly with the dog and was denied boarding due to having an improper cargo container. In turn, the dog was abandoned, and its owner continued to its resort destination,” Sgt. Donaldson added.

A resort destination and not some sort of family emergency, according to police.

Police say the officers then took the pup to a local shelter.

“We in turn contacted the state dog warden who has placed the dog with Animal Friends of Pittsburgh, temporarily. And through that conversation with the state dog warden, we expect that charges will be filed for animal abandonment."

Animal Friends also provided a statement and said that its police officers are also pursuing an investigation and reviewing possible charges.

"The dog will remain on hold and Animal Friends is pleased to provide the necessary treatment and supportive care the dog needs until this case is resolved."

Animal Friends says the dog involved in this case is not currently up for adoption.
