18-year-old Texas woman accused of shooting her mom on Mother's Day: police

A Texas woman was arrested for shooting her mother on Mother's Day, according to authorities.

The Houston Police Department said 18-year-old Trinity Calhoun was charged with aggravated assault of a family member.

Police said officers responded to a home for a reported shooting Sunday around 3:30 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 35-year-old woman with "a non-life -threatening gunshot wound to her right leg." The woman, who was later identified as Calhoun's mother, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police launched an investigation and learned Calhoun, went to her mother's house to pick up her child and "the situation escalated into a disturbance."

That's when Calhoun shot her mother and left the scene. She was arrested a few miles from the home, police said.

Calhoun was then charges and then booked into the Harris County Jail.
